25th March 2025
Glasgow Royal Concert Hall
I can remember Kim Wilde arriving back in the day, bursting onto our TV screens with Kids in America, and being proclaimed as the "British Debbie Harry".
I don't think she and her band ever scaled the musical peaks Blondie did, but I do recall a string of really rather infectious-listening hits, with intriguing sounding titles such as Water on Glass and the strikingly dark Cambodia. Dad Marty (a Sixties pop star in his own right) and brother Ricky penning most of these.
The UK hits more or less dried up in the mid-Eighties, but the lady remained popular especially on the continent and (a ten year spell making babies, apart) Kim never stopped releasing albums.
This evening was the Glasgow stop on a UK tour promoting her 15th studio album Closer.
With this gig taking place in May we were denied the opportunity to hear her two festive tunes: Rocking Around The Christmas Tree and (crushingly) F U Kristmas.

Kids in America.
Support band for the evening were The Cutting Crew. They were pleasant enough I suppose, but it did feel a bit like everyone in the room was just patiently and politely waiting for THE hit.
