Edinburgh Festival
Time spent in the company of Ross Wilson, and whichever band of talented musicians he is performing with under the name Blue Rose Code at that point, is always time well spent I have found.
And it was certainly so this evening, even if his allocated slot in the George Square Gardens roster was just under an hour.
But he made the most of his allotted span, with a judicious selection of tunes spanning the whole of his career from the last decade or so. That the band had clearly spent a deal of lockdown rehearsing, and were tight as the proverbial drum, helped.
Only cover of Amazing Grace failed to hit the mark I felt. Even a confirmed heathen like myself generally finds any rendition of the christian hymn rather stirring, but I prefer my serving to be in the traditional 3/4 time and funereal slow. This evening's arrangement was a given a soulful gospely twang.
And I just didnae like it.
